1st trimester

First 3 months (12 weeks) period

The first sign of pregnancy is the absence of menstruation.

When pregnancy is first learned, you should quit your bad habits such as alcohol and cigarettes as it will be risky during pregnancy.

You should drink plenty of water. It is recommended to drink 2-3 liters of water per day on average.

In order to support the development of the baby's brain and nervous system, adequate folic acid intake of the mother is important during this period.

If it has not been started before, 400 micrograms of folic acid per day is started.

3. Week of Pregnancy

first 4 weeks of pregnancy

Since the weeks of pregnancy are counted starting from the first day of your last menstrual period, it will be 4 weeks when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. From the moment the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, beta-HCG hormone increases in the blood. Before four weeks, there can be no talk of a pregnancy or baby in the womb. Since ovulation occurs 2 weeks after the last menstruation, fertilization occurs on these days. Therefore, in the days called 1st or 2nd week of pregnancy, there is actually no pregnancy yet. The third week passes with fertilization and making its way to the uterus. However, in the 4th week, the fertilized egg reaches the uterus and settles there. In the fourth week, the beta-HCG test that you will have in the blood will confirm whether you are pregnant or not. During this period, there may be a small amount of bleeding, inguinal pain as if it will be menstruation, breast tenderness, fullness, weakness, drowsiness and frequent urination. During this period, you should definitely consult a doctor. In the fourth week, transvaginal USG (TV-USG) does not show the gestational sac yet, but the thickness of the endometrial (inner lining of the uterus) that supports pregnancy is seen. During this period, the endometrial thickness is 15 mm and above, and beta-HCG is around 100 IU/L. Visualization of the gestational sac by TV-USG, 5-6. finds weeks.

BABY

In the fifth week, beta-HCG is approximately 600 IU/L, and gestational sac is approximately 10 mm in TV-USG. Yolk Sac is 2 mm in diameter. The head-rump length (CRL) at five weeks of pregnancy is around 2-3 mm. It can be seen with TV-Ultrasound. It is seen near the yolk sac. We call this image  solitaire ring image. Even if it is not seen, it should not be worried and should be looked at again in the future. Circulation of the embryo begins on the 21st day after fertilization. For this reason, heartbeats can sometimes be seen with TV-USG. The amniotic sac (water sac) and placenta develop and exchange between mother and baby accelerates. Blood cells are formed and the passages in the channels increase. The balloon-like structure next to the baby is called the "Yolk Sac (yolk sac)" and the baby feeds the yolk sac during these weeks until the mother begins to feed. The baby's cardiovascular, brain, nervous and other organ systems begin to develop.

MOM

In the 5th week of pregnancy, some changes may occur in the mother, both physically and psychologically, due to the rapid change in hormones. The mother is more tired than usual, is sluggish and sleeps all the time. Tightness in the breasts, tenderness and darkening of the nipples may be the first symptoms. The urge to urinate frequently develops due to the enlargement of the uterus. There may be groin pain and cramps similar to menstrual pain. These are normal. Sometimes there may be spotting or light bleeding. Even if it is small, when bleeding occurs, it is necessary to consult a doctor because of the risk of miscarriage. Gas and digestive problems may develop. Often morning sickness may be present.

6. Week of Pregnancy
6.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

In the sixth week, beta-HCG is observed at 5200 IU/L. At six weeks of pregnancy, the baby's heartbeat can be easily seen and heard with TV-USG. Embryo heart rate is around 85-100 beats per minute. Gestational sac is 15-16 mm. Yolk Sac is 4 mm in diameter. Head-butt length (CRL) is 4 mm. In the sixth week, the baby's umbilical cord forms. The eyes, ears, and oral cavity appear on the larger-than-normal head of the embryo. The hip part is also revealed in the same way. Arm and leg buds are formed.

The liver, lungs, pancreas, inner ear, stomach, esophagus, and even the mouth opening appear as more distinct outlines. The first structures that will form the respiratory and digestive system of the baby become evident.

MOM

The placenta appears, which provides all the exchange between you and your baby. With the increase in the hormones secreted during your pregnancy, your nausea and smell sensitivity increase this week. You may feel nauseated, especially in the morning. Sometimes vomiting occurs and these complaints may continue until the 12th week. You may experience emotional fluctuations due to changes in hormones. Most pregnant women feel lonely and tired. Frequent urination becomes more evident due to the enlargement and pressure of the uterus. You may have groin pain, this is normal as long as there is no bleeding. Indigestion, constipation and stomach ailments will be closely related to the foods taken during this period.

7. Week of Pregnancy
7.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

This week, beta-HCG is monitored at a level of approximately 26,700 IU/L. Embryo heart rate is 120-160 beats per minute on average at the 7th week of pregnancy. At seven weeks of pregnancy, the baby's head-rump length (CRL) is around 9-10 mm. The gestational sac is 22-24 mm. Its arms and legs, which are in the form of buds, continue to take shape. However, arms, legs and fingers did not form separate from the body. Organs such as the brain, spine and thyroid glands, great vessels, eyes, stomach, intestines, kidneys, lungs, liver, gall bladder and pancreas have begun to develop. Eye sockets, ears become more prominent and eyelids appear. Bone structures of the arms and legs begin to develop, but are not yet fully formed.

MOM

Breast enlargement and tenderness continue. Different complaints such as low blood pressure and headache may be experienced. Nausea can begin during these weeks, especially right after getting up in the morning, and can be active throughout the day. During this period, some pregnant women may gain 1-2 kg, while others may lose 1-2 kg due to vomiting. Especially if you have nutritional problems due to nausea or frequent vomiting, you should definitely get nutrition and some medication recommendations from your doctor. To reduce nausea, frequent and less meals, dry non-fat foods, crackers, chickpeas and crackers may be suitable foods.

8. Week of Pregnancy
8.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

The baby's body movements can be seen on USG  , but it takes the 18th week for the mother to feel it. At eight weeks of pregnancy, the head-rump length (CRL) of the embryo is about 15 mm. Its weight is about 2 grams. In the 8th week of pregnancy, the nasal tip, eyelids and lower jaw of the embryo become prominent. In this week, the baby's arms increase in length, fingers and elbows begin to form. The toes are still stuck together. Nerve conduction of his arms occurs. Leg buds grow and toe notches begin to form. The shaping of the eyes, nose and ears on the face continues. The trachea separates from the esophagus. Kidneys develop. The spinal cord also continues to develop. Bones begin to harden. Under the palate, buds begin to form, which will later form the teeth. The baby's back muscles become prominent around the spine. The veins in the umbilical cord that connects the mother and the baby begin to function.

MOM

This week, you may experience pain and cramps in your abdomen and groin from time to time due to the enlargement of your uterus. Oily skin, acne and exfoliation may occur. Due to increased pregnancy hormones, the digestive system works slowly. This leads to indigestion, constipation and gas complaints. Therefore, gassy and uncomfortable foods should be avoided. You may still have complaints of frequent urination along with nausea.

9. Week of Pregnancy
9.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At nine weeks of pregnancy, the baby's head-rump length is  (CRL)  23-24 mm, and its weight is about 2-3 grams. The ninth week is the last week of the embryonic period. After this, the fetal period will begin and the embryo will be called a fetus after the tenth week. In the ninth week, the face of the embryo becomes more pronounced. The eyes become prominent, the retina forms, the eyelids develop, the auricle, nostrils, nasal tip and tongue begin to form. Cartilage and bone tissues are formed. Fingers are formed but still attached. The testes or ovaries, the structures that will form the internal genital organs, begin to develop. The ridge that will form the structure of the baby (girl - boy) becomes evident, but the genitals have not yet developed enough to understand the gender. The gender of the baby cannot be told. The intestines, which had protruded around the baby's umbilical cord in the first stages of formation in the previous weeks, now begin to migrate into the abdomen. Heart valves are formed. The baby starts to swallow for the first time this week and drinks amniotic fluid (the water the baby is in). In this week, it is seen that the baby is moving.

MOM

During these weeks, the waist thickens and the clothes begin to tighten. Apart from your nausea, you may have heartburn, gas and indigestion. For a healthy pregnancy, the mother should have a regular and balanced diet. Daily calorie intake should increase by 250-300 calories compared to pre-pregnancy. Foods containing protein, fruits, vegetables and calcium should be taken. With the effect of increasing hormones during pregnancy, maternal psychology may deteriorate. The susceptibility to depression increases. There may be episodes of emotionality, irritability, and even crying. Spouses and relatives should be more understanding. Again, weakness, fatigue and drowsiness continue.

10th Week of Pregnancy
10.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At ten weeks of pregnancy, the baby's head-rump length (CRL) is about 30 mm, and its weight is 4-5 grams. While the baby is called an embryo until this week, it is called a fetus from the 10th week until birth. Although its development continues in the following weeks, all vital organs have completed their main development by the 10th week. The heart is developed and able to provide blood circulation regularly. The digestive system and reproductive organs are more developed. Body folds, elbows, knees, toes, and fingers are quite prominent. Muscles began to strengthen and mobility began to increase. Movements are clearly visible with ultrasound. The baby has acquired the reflex to hold an object that touches his hand. The auricle and upper lip are shaped. The baby makes swallowing movements, swallows the amniotic water and starts urinating for the first time.
The most critical process in the development of the baby's organs and tissues is over. Because the first 10 weeks are the most critical and sensitive period in baby development. This period (first 10 weeks of pregnancy) is the period when the baby is most sensitive to drugs and toxic substances.

MOM

Emotional fluctuations are among the prominent complaints this week. By the end of the third month, when beta-HCG levels peak, this over-emotional sensitivity will decrease significantly. It is important for the pregnant woman to feel comfortable and peaceful for the continuation of the pregnancy. Due to increased blood flow during pregnancy, body temperature is felt more. Heat intolerance increases After this period, non-tight cotton underwear and bras that do not tighten more comfortably due to breast enlargement should be worn. Flat and comfortable shoes should be preferred instead of pointy-toed and high-heeled shoes.

11. Week of Pregnancy
11.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

In the eleventh gestational week, the baby's head-rump length  (CRL)  approximately 40-41 mm, and its weight is 7 grams. The size of the baby's head is half its height. The period from the eleventh week to birth is called the fetal period. All details of the fetus can be seen on ultrasound imaging. During these weeks, blood circulation begins between the baby and the mother's womb and the placenta (the baby's partner) begins to function. The baby urinates, so the amniotic fluid in the gestational sac also increases. The baby's heart, blood vessels, brain, nervous and skeletal systems have become functional. The baby's hair and nails begin to develop. From the 11th week, the baby enters the rapid growth and maturation process with the onset of the fetal period and is prepared for birth.

MOM

In these weeks, the feeling of nausea and vomiting may continue, although it may decrease. As always, great care should be taken with food and drink. Headaches may increase due to hormonal changes. In order to prevent headaches, it is necessary to stay away from stress, sleep regularly and eat regularly. It is considered normal to have a white-transparent odorless discharge, which may be present throughout the entire pregnancy, and which may be excessive in amount. If color, odor or itching is added to this, consult your doctor!

12th Week of Pregnancy
12.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the twelfth gestational week, the baby's head-rump length (CRL) is approximately 52-53 mm, and its weight is about 15 grams. The fetus now looks like a complete baby. In this week, all the baby's organs are formed. All these formed organs will continue to grow until birth. Fingers and toes are separated from each other. Nails continue to form. Nervous system and muscular system are strengthened. The external genital organs of the baby begin to take shape and become distinguishable by ultrasound within a week or two, whether it is a boy or a girl. By the end of the twelfth week, the first trimester of pregnancy is over.

MOM

At the end of twelve weeks, the mother can gain about 1-2 kilos. Rarely, he may not have gained any weight during these months. The complaints of nausea, vomiting and breast tenderness gradually decrease. As the baby grows in the uterus, the uterus now rises above the pelvis. The waist is noticeably thickened. Black lines (linea nigra) begin to appear on the anterior abdominal wall, below the navel. As the baby's nutritional needs increase and the mother's feeling of nausea decreases, feeding is relieved and weight gain begins. Headache, heartburn, constipation complaints may continue. Along with constipation, hemorrhoids may be experienced. In order to prevent these complaints, plenty of fluids should be taken and fibrous foods should be consumed throughout the pregnancy. The end of the most distressing first 3 months of pregnancy, which includes the threat of miscarriage, relieves the expectant mother.

13. Week of Pregnancy
13.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirteenth gestational week, the baby's head-rump length (CRL)  approximately 67-68 mm, weight is 16-20 grams. This week, the baby's face starts to look like a normal baby face. The baby's vocal cords, palate and teeth begin to form. Insulin can be secreted from the pancreatic gland and bile fluid from the liver. With the advanced ultrasound device, the eye lenses can be seen and their gender can be selected. While the baby's eyes were previously far apart, this week they begin to approach each other, the ears move towards their normal places. In this week, the sex of the baby is developed enough to be told by looking at the external genitalia. The baby swallows the amniotic fluid in which it is present and expels it again as urine, and the urine mixes with the amniotic fluid. During this period, as the muscles and joints get stronger, their movements increase a lot.

MOM

With the 13th week of pregnancy, the second trimester begins and the mother enters the most comfortable period of pregnancy. Nausea, vomiting and irritability are reduced. Fatigue and drowsiness ends. The mother regains her old energy. Heartburn and burning sensation may persist. The uterus grows rapidly and as it grows, the organs in the abdomen will move slightly from their normal places. For this reason, there will be tension in the muscles and fibers that hold the organs in place, which will cause groin pain. This is normal pain. Due to the tension in the abdominal wall, cracks may occur in the abdomen and it is recommended to use special anti-crack creams to prevent this. Unfortunately, cracks that may occur during this period never heal. For this reason, it is necessary to take precautions before it occurs, consume plenty of liquid and fiber foods, and pay attention to weight gain by doing adequate gymnastics. It should not be forgotten that cracks may also be related to the skin structure. During this period, there may be spots on the skin due to increased estrogen. This is most common in the nipples, abdomen, and groin area. It may be a percentage in some pregnant women. Skin darkening can also increase with sunlight and ultraviolet. Pregnant women should not be exposed to too much sun and should use products with protection factor. Skin darkening disappears after childbirth.

14th Week of Pregnancy
14.gebelikhaftası.jpg

BABY

In the fourteenth week of pregnancy, the baby's head-rump length (CRL) is about 80-81 mm, and its weight is 45 grams.

Baby starts breathing like  movements   this week. Breathing takes place with amniotic fluid. The baby takes the amniotic fluid into his lungs and then expels it again through his mouth, thus doing breathing exercises. While the shape of the baby and especially the head has always been curved in all ultrasound images until now, the baby can stand upright and raise its head in the 14th week of pregnancy. The baby can take deep breaths and swallow. It feeds on the nutrients taken by the mother and oxygenates her blood with the air she breathes. His muscles are now very strong. Its entire body is covered with colorless and fine hairs. The baby's neck gets longer and his chin begins to move away from his chest. The baby begins to move his hands and arms. The baby's heartbeat can be heard with the doppler device. The baby's digestive system begins to move as if digesting the food he eats. The baby has very thin nails. The baby can suck his thumb during these weeks. The baby's bone marrow begins to produce blood cells.

MOM

In the 14th week of pregnancy, heartburn increases due to the escape of stomach acid, called reflux, into the esophagus in the mother. In such cases, it is recommended that pregnant women do not bend over after meals and do not go to bed immediately. If they are going to sleep, it is recommended to keep the pillow a little high. With these measures, stomach acid can be prevented from reaching the mouth. Breasts continue to grow. In fact, yellow and cream-colored milk called colostrum may start coming from your nipples. The mother may meet with low back and back pain this week. Due to the relaxing effect of hormones in pregnancy on your whole body smooth muscles, constipation may occur during these weeks. In order to prevent constipation complaints, fibrous and watery foods are recommended regularly. Depending on the growth of the baby in the uterus, the abdomen becomes more pronounced as the uterus rises above the pelvis.

15th Week of Pregnancy
15.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the fifteenth gestational week, the baby's head-rump length  (CRL) is approximately 91-92 mm, and its weight is 70 grams. Fine hairs (lanugo) cover the baby's entire skin, and these take up to 26 weeks to develop. The baby's skin is very thin. The baby can suck his thumb during these weeks. The baby's sense of taste also begins to develop. In this week, the baby's muscle and bone development continues by hardening and getting stronger. Sometimes he can move his arms or legs, and these movements are rarely felt by the mother. The cartilage-like bones in the inner part of the ear mature well. The baby's eyelids are tightly closed during these weeks. He drinks amniotic fluid regularly and may hiccup sometimes.

MOM

Your pregnancy is now starting to show from the outside. You can apply anti-stretch creams and drink plenty of water to avoid stretch marks on your stomach. There will also be an increase in waist and back pain. During pregnancy, the joints between the bones in your hip area relax in preparation for birth, and the weight of the uterus increases and the center of gravity changes. As a result, body shape and gait change, and changes made to compensate for these changes cause back pain. To reduce back pain, lie down with your knees pulled towards your stomach, facing one side. Place a cushion between your knees and under your stomach. Do exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles. During this period, gingival bleeding may begin, which is normal.

16th Week of Pregnancy
16.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the sixteenth week of pregnancy, the baby's head-rump length (CRL)  approximately 10 cm, weight 80-100 grams. The baby can now hold his head upright. Arm and leg movements occur with a certain rhythm and are stronger. The mother may also feel it as gas pains or baby movement. This week, the placenta (baby's partner) weighs the same as the fetus (baby)  . The baby's external genitalia (male or female gender) can be seen very easily. Nerve conduction is strengthened thanks to myelin (the substance that covers the nerve fibers). The baby becomes sensitive and may even react to light.

MOM

The mother's womb is now easily visible from the outside. Recognition of pregnancy from the outside varies. The reasons for this are the mother's body structure and the number of births. Compared to the first pregnancy, the second and third pregnancies become evident earlier due to the weakening of the abdominal muscles. Some pregnant women say they feel the baby's movements this week. Baby movements are usually 19-20 in the first pregnancy. felt during pregnancy. Baby movements may be felt earlier in second or third pregnancies. On your face, stomach, nipples, the color changes that will pass later become more and more obvious. You may have nosebleeds and nasal congestion due to the effect of your hormones. Problems such as varicose veins and hemorrhoids may also develop. In this case, compression stockings are recommended to prevent varicose veins. In addition, those with varicose and hemorrhoid problems should lie down with their legs at heart level.

17th Week of Pregnancy
17.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the seventeenth week of pregnancy, the baby's   head-butt length  (CRL) is approximately 11 cm and its weight is 110-140 grams. In the seventeenth week, the baby's subcutaneous fat storage increases. For this reason, the baby begins to gain weight faster. Fat storage is important for baby's temperature control. The baby can do reflexes such as blinking, swallowing and sucking. The transformation of cartilage into bone tissue continues. His heart can pump 25-30 liters of blood and beats 120-160 per minute.

MOM

The uterus grows below the belly button. As a result, the body naturally begins to expand. Therefore, comfortable clothes should be chosen. Likewise, the breasts become larger. You may start to feel uncomfortable lying on your back now, as the growing uterus begins to put pressure on the major vessels, so lying on the left-right side is recommended. The best sleeping position is on the left side. A thin soft pillow is recommended under the abdomen and between the legs when lying on your side.

18th Week of Pregnancy
18.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the eighteenth gestational week, the baby's head-rump length (CRL) is approximately 12 cm, and its weight is 190-200 grams. The baby is more active this week. He begins to live a life of regular sleep and wakefulness. The placenta continues to develop rapidly. The intestines begin to make meconium (the baby's first stool). Prostate gland development begins in male babies. There are marks on the baby's fingers and toes. Parts of the heart are seen on ultrasound, but the development of the heart continues.

MOM

If this isn't your first pregnancy, moms will noticeably feel baby movements this week. Mothers look forward to this moment. Feeling the baby's movements in the first pregnancy 20-22. may take the week. In fact, your baby is active from the 7th week. But your perception will be this week and beyond. Your pregnancy is now too big to hide. The mother can gain about 4 kilos. You should now wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothes. Do not forget to apply the anti-stretch cream on your stomach. In addition to spots on your face, thin veins may become evident. Therefore, your face may appear redder. The baby needs calcium for bone development and it gets it from the mother's calcium stores. The mother should take calcium-rich foods to avoid calcium deficiency. During this period, vaginal discharge may increase. Wear cotton underwear, try to keep it clean and dry! Consult your doctor if your discharge adds color, odor and itching!

19. Week of Pregnancy
19.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the nineteenth week of pregnancy, the baby's length is about 15 cm, including the legs, and its weight is 270 grams. He can sense outside sounds. The structure of the palate and the outlines of the milk teeth begin to form. Nerve endings are fully developed. If the baby is a girl, primitive egg cells have started to form in her ovaries. Since the urinary system is fully developed, it urinates at regular intervals and swallows amniotic fluid. The baby's skin is covered with a substance called vernix caseosa. This substance has a white cheese-like consistency and covers the whole body of the baby. When babies are born, this white vernix caseosa substance appears on them. Vernix caseosa protects the baby's skin. The placenta (the baby's partner) continues to grow and provides nourishment to the baby.

MOM

The navel flattens. The mother can gain 5 kilos until this period. It is recommended to start doing light exercise during this period. Regular walking, swimming if conditions are suitable is the best sport during pregnancy. Regular exercise also regulates blood circulation. Your reflux problem may occur due to the pressure of your growing uterus on your stomach and the increased progesterone hormone to relax the muscle between the esophagus and stomach. To reduce the reflux problem, eat frequently and less and do not lie on your back after meals!

20th Week of Pregnancy
20.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the twentieth week of pregnancy, the baby's height is about 24 cm and its weight is 330 grams. Fine hairs called lanuga cover the whole body. The vagina and uterus of female babies  (womb) are formed. The hair on the head increases. Your baby's senses of taste, smell, hearing and sight continue to develop rapidly. It can now begin to respond to loud sounds.

MOM

In the twentieth week, you are now halfway through your pregnancy. The uterus is at the level of the navel. Abdominal skin may itch slightly due to tension. Humidifiers can be used to prevent this. Due to pregnancy, there will be loosening in all your joints. This may appear to you as back pain. To reduce your back pain, lie down and rest whenever you can! Stay away from high-heeled shoes to both relieve your balance problem and reduce your back pain! Mothers experiencing their first pregnancy can feel the baby's movements. The baby's heartbeat can now be heard with the hand doppler. This week, your immune cells are transferred to your baby, and immunological maturation begins during this period. The heart, which works 2 times harder than normal to pump blood, can cause breathing difficulties. Learning breathing exercises and applying them regularly will relax the mother.

21st Week of Pregnancy
21.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the twenty-first week of pregnancy, the baby's height is about 26.7 cm and its weight is 360 grams. While your baby's skin is very thin, it starts to thicken gradually. His language is fully developed. The baby's legs come to normal proportions according to his body. During these weeks, the baby, who is standing in a wider area, moves better and these movements are easily observed from the outside. During this period, he feels the strong light and sound coming from the outside world. Now she hears you, so the mother can talk to the baby, play music. It is also important in mother-baby communication and in the emotional development of the baby. He sleeps and wakes up regularly.

MOM

Your uterus reaches an inch above your belly button. Inguinal pain may occur due to the stretching of the ligaments holding the uterus in place due to the rapid growth of the uterus, it is normal. However, if bleeding and watering are added to this, consult your doctor immediately! As the mother's belly continues to grow, itches and cracks may occur. The best way to relax in this regard is to use creams regularly. Creams will facilitate the growth of the abdomen by softening and stretching the skin. Use your anti-stretch cream and moisturizer to relieve itching! Swelling may occur in the feet and ankles due to the increase in the amount of blood in your circulation. From time to time, raising the feet slightly, resting and drinking plenty of water will reduce these complaints. Therefore, do not forget to drink plenty of water during the day! You may have gained 6 pounds in the twenty-first week. In order to prevent swelling that may occur in the wrists and ankles, it is necessary not to stay still for a long time. You should be careful to have your blood pressure measured regularly. If the blood pressure exceeds 140 mmHg in large and 90 mmHg in small, be sure to call your doctor!

Don't forget to take a walk, breathing exercises and take iron supplements!

Massage and hot application techniques can be used for low back and back pain.

22nd Week of Pregnancy
22.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the twenty-second gestational week, the baby's height is approximately 27.8 cm and its weight is 430 grams. Until this week, the head becomes larger than the body, but from the 22nd week, the body also develops and provides its proportion with the head size. The baby has started to take its birth shape. Your baby's brain continues to develop rapidly. Eyelids, nostrils are shaped. Eyebrows and eyelashes are fully revealed. The baby's fingerprints are fully formed. The testicles of male babies begin to descend from the abdominal cavity into their bags this week. The baby is mobile. He often moves his arms and legs.

MOM

Your uterus is 2 fingers above the belly button. Now your baby understands your speech better. Hears you when you are talking, reading or singing. With the effect of hormones, there is enlargement of all veins. There may be varicose veins in the legs and hemorrhoids in the anus. Constipation exacerbates this problem. Hemorrhoids can cause rectal bleeding, itching and pain. In this case, consult your doctor! Gums become sensitive and may swell.

23rd Week of Pregnancy
23.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

The baby is about 28.5 cm long and weighs 501 grams. The baby gets bigger and chubby as it goes on. The newborn begins to look like a baby. He hears better because his bones in the middle ear have hardened. Eye pigments begin to form. The pancreas develops and secretes insulin more regularly. The whole body of the baby is densely covered with fine hairs (lanugo).

MOM

As the load on the waist and back increases, there is an increase in waist and back pain. The waist crease may turn a little more inward. These pains are related to the change in the center of gravity. Leg cramps can be seen frequently in pregnant women who are experiencing these weeks. These cramps can be severe enough to wake the mother from sleep, especially at night. Calcium and magnesium intake, drinking plenty of milk will reduce these complaints and the frequency of cramps.

24th Week of Pregnancy
24.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

The baby is about 30 cm tall and weighs 600 grams. In this week, the development of the respiratory tract in the lungs accelerates. Surfactant production begins in the lungs. Surfactant covers the inner surface of the air sacs that provide ventilation in the lungs and is the substance that prevents the vesicle walls from sticking together after evacuating the air in the vesicle. Babies have almost no chance of surviving because their lung development is very low before 24 weeks. The baby begins to gain consciousness. Its memory begins to store information. Mental functions will develop more and faster this week. Your baby continues to gain weight rapidly. This causes an increase in muscle and adipose tissue. The sense of taste develops. The nostrils open.

MOM

The mother's appetite increases a lot during these weeks. The biggest fear of pregnant women is the appetite that they cannot control. Pregnant women who gain weight in a normal course gain 6-7 kilos since the beginning of pregnancy. Gum bleeding may occur. Your gums may recede. Therefore, if you have similar complaints, you should consult your dentist without neglecting it. During these weeks, your body starts to retain water and edema may occur in the ankle. Especially if you stand a lot, edema develops in the ankle and foot. This is physiological edema. If the edema goes up your leg, consult your doctor! If your blood pressure is above 140//90 mmHg during this period, this may be a sign of preeclampsia. In this case, consult your doctor immediately.

25th Week of Pregnancy
25.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the twenty-fifth week, the baby's height is about 34.6 cm, and its weight is 660 grams. The spinal structure has been strengthened and the nerve structure in the spinal cord has developed. The palate is fully formed. Blood vessels form in his lungs. Sweat glands, which are very important for the body, develop. The baby begins to make catching movements. The baby starts to hiccup frequently.

MOM

Varicose veins in the legs, waist and back pain may occur due to the pressure of the growing uterus and the deterioration of circulation. In some pregnant women, there may be pain in the whole body, including the fingers. In order to reduce these pains, one should change positions frequently while standing, lie down whenever possible and take a shower with warm water. Vaginal discharge may increase during these periods. Odorless and colorless discharge is normal during pregnancy.

BABY

At the twenty-sixth week, the baby's height is approximately 35.6 cm, and its weight is 760 grams. This week, the optic nerve develops. If intense light is shined on her wife, she sees the light and can turn her head in that direction. He can open and close his eyes. The baby's eye color also develops, but the true eye color becomes apparent 4-6 months after birth. It is sensitive to sound and light. It responds to you when you touch it from the outside  or speak because it will hear you. Hand and foot prints begin to form, which distinguishes your baby from other babies. Lung continues to develop. A substance called surfactant is made in the lung air sacs. This development is beneficial but not sufficient for the baby to be able to breathe in case of premature birth.

MOM

You may notice that your eyes are quite sensitive to light this week. Dry eye due to pregnancy is a common complaint of many expectant mothers. You can use artificial tear preparations to overcome the problem. You may have gained about 6-7 kilos by this week of pregnancy. During these weeks, you may feel a hardening and sudden contractions in your abdomen all of a sudden and out of the blue. These contractions are called “Braxton-Hicks”. These contractions can occur in all pregnant women. Do not worry!

Premature birth symptoms:

- Cramp-like pains similar to menstrual cramps,
-Lback pain that does not go away with changing positions,
- Increase or change in the quality of vaginal discharge (more slimy, watery or bloody discharge),
Intestinal cramps with or without diarrhea
These symptoms alone are not meaningful in terms of the threat of preterm labor without contractions. However, if you have any of these symptomsIf you are not sure whether you have contractions or not, you should contact your doctor again.

BABY

At the twenty-seventh week, the baby's height is approximately 36.6 cm, and its weight is 835 grams. At the twenty-seventh week, the lung continues to develop. From this week on, he makes the movements of opening and closing his eyes. The baby can distinguish between light and dark.

MOM

You have entered the last week of the second trimester. You have finished the second trimester. The diaphragm is displaced upwards as a result of the pressure of the growing uterus on the rib cage. As this will prevent adequate ventilation of the lungs, breathing and sleep problems are experienced. The pillow that you will put under your head while sleeping on your back will relax you. It will be beneficial to take a warm shower for sleep problems. As a result of the pressure of the growing uterus on the vein in the abdominal cavity, there may be swelling in the feet and legs. To prevent this, short walks should be taken and rest by lifting the legs up. In the presence of edema, it should be ensured that there is no high blood pressure problem. It is useful to control blood pressure during this period. Blood pressure should be below 140/90 mmHg. The line extending down from the middle of the navel becomes more pronounced. Its formation cannot be prevented, but it disappears after a certain period of time.

MOM

It covers the last trimester (3rd trimester) of pregnancy from week 28 to week 41. As of this week, you have entered the 3rd trimester. This period may be relatively more difficult than the 2nd period. This week, the growing uterus reaches almost the level of your ribs. In these last 3 months, urinary incontinence may occur with exercise, sudden position change and coughing due to increased hormones during pregnancy and the pressure of the growing baby in the uterus to the bladder. This may be more frequent and earlier in expectant mothers who have given birth before. Kegel exercises are recommended to reduce urinary incontinence. Kegel exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and also prepare the muscles in the birth canal for birth. You should do this exercise as often as possible during the day. You may notice an increase in varicose veins and swelling in your legs this week. This may also increase if you have a hemorrhoid problem. You may experience frequent cramps in your legs.

29th Week of Pregnancy
29.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

Baby's senses such as sight, hearing, smell and taste are well developed. Your baby can now recognize your voice. Bone marrow can produce blood cells. The baby makes about 500 milliliters of urine per day and this urine mixes into the amniotic fluid. Babies born at this week still have respiratory distress.

MOM

In these weeks, shortness of breath may increase due to the increase in the pressure on the diaphragm as the uterus rises well. There may be a burning sensation in the stomach. Leg cramps may develop. A light massage helps with this. If these cramps increase, calcium deficiency should be considered. In this case, calcium and magnesium supplements should be made. From these weeks on, edema in your fingers can make it difficult to make fists. If the swelling in the face and hands is excessive, be sure to consult your doctor. The best exercise during this period is walking and swimming. There may be itching in the abdomen due to the stretching of the skin. Moisturizing creams help.

The baby's lungs and digestive system are almost fully developed. The baby's brain development also continues rapidly. The baby's pupil reacts to light. He opens and closes his eyes frequently. As the bone development accelerates, the calcium requirement of the baby increases.

MOM

Due to the pressure of the uterus on the vessels in the abdominal cavity, you may have edema in the ankles due to standing for a long time and inactivity. For this reason, you should not stay in the same position for a long time and choose orthopedic shoes with short heels (2-3 cm) and wide clothes that do not tighten your body. Especially during this period, walking will be very beneficial for you and your pregnancy. The most active time of the baby is 30-32. for weeks. Later, as the space narrows and the amniotic fluid decreases, its movements may be less, but more forceful and disturbing.

32.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

And this five-week period can be added to your postpartum leave. Due to the fact that your uterus continues to grow rapidly, the tension in the abdominal skin is felt more. Therefore, you should use skin moisturizers regularly. The 32nd week of pregnancy is when the baby begins to take its birth shape. Usually upside down. This puts more strain on the mother.

33rd Week of Pregnancy
33.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirty-third week, the baby's height is about 43 cm, and its weight is 2000 grams. It moves the amnion in and out by making faster breathing movements into the lungs. This breathing accelerates the production of surfactant. This is very important in the development of the lungs. Your baby can hear, feel and see. Thirty-third week is the week in which amniotic fluid reaches the maximum amount. After this week, the amniotic fluid begins to decrease slightly. Amniotic fluid consists of the baby's urine and is renewed every 3 hours. The baby constantly renews the amniotic fluid it creates by urinating, swallowing it and sucking it through its skin. Fat storage, which causes a pink color change in the skin, also ensures the preservation of postpartum body temperature. The baby's immune system develops and this continues until birth.

MOM

From this week, the baby begins to gain weight rapidly. You can feel the baby's hiccups. Due to your baby's increased need for calories, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, you should take care to use milk and dairy products regularly. Back and lower back pain may increase due to the enlargement of the uterus.

If the mother   begins to gain weight rapidly, in this period, with rapid and excessive weight gain, excessive swelling in the hands and legs in 2-3 days, severe headache in the neck and head, feeling of flying flies in the eye, stomach In case of pain, nausea-vomiting, you should consult your doctor urgently, as you may have pregnancy poisoning (preeclampsia). 34.gebelikhaftası.jpg

BABY

At the thirty-fourth gestational week, the baby's height is approximately 45 cm, CRL is 30 cm, and weight is 2150 grams. This week, the baby closes his eyelids while he sleeps and opens them when he wakes up. Due to the increase in the subcutaneous fat tissue of the baby, the skin, which looks wrinkled until this week, is smooth and taut. Baby's fingernails reach the fingertips. The skull bones have formed but are still soft. The baby can hold objects tightly with his hand. In this week, the production of surfactant in the baby's lungs may have reached a sufficient amount. Therefore, babies born this week may have less respiratory distress and other problems. Your baby's immune system is developing and has gained the ability to fight simple and mild infections. Babies can get around 200g per week in the last 2 months.

MOM

As the baby takes the form of delivery over time, the pressure in the groin increases. The mother can feel the baby's skull down and the inevitable pressure. Since this pressure will also affect the bladder, frequent urination will occur. However, the swelling in the body continues. Swelling can be seen especially in the face area, neck and hands. You need to continue to drink water, take care to drink enough water. With the effect of hormones, milk production begins in the breasts. The spasms and pain continue. Sleeping would be a real problem. You can only try natural ways to solve this problem. It may be beneficial to take a warm shower, drink milk or soothing herbal teas before going to bed, and have light massages. Weakness and fatigue are among the most important complaints of many pregnant women during these weeks. Difficulty sleeping, weight gain, and a consequent decrease in mobility will cause you to have problems.

35th Week of Pregnancy
35.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirty-fifth week, the baby's height is approximately 45-46 cm, and its weight is 2350 grams. The increase in adipose tissue is evident. The baby's arms and legs become chubby. In male babies, the testicles have completed their outflow. Because the baby has grown so much, there isn't much room to move around, so the baby's movement can be so harsh that it hurts the mother. His sense of hearing is very strong, he can listen to the surroundings very easily. Since the lungs and other internal organs are almost completely mature, babies born this week may not experience respiratory distress and other problems.

MOM

You should have gained about 10 pounds by this week. As the baby grows well and its weight increases, the decrease in the mother's mobility becomes evident. Even simple movements become difficult. Be mindful of your walk. The mother may feel tired and sluggish. The growing uterus changes the position of the stomach. In addition, the stomach contents, which are in a dense acid structure, may escape from the upper part of the stomach, which is loosened by the effect of pregnancy hormones, towards the esophagus. This condition, called reflux, reaches a serious level in most pregnant women who are about to enter their last month. In this case, antacids may be recommended by your doctor. You should follow the baby's movements. Baby's movements give us very good information about your baby's health. If a decrease in baby movements is felt, the mother should take sweet foods that increase blood sugar. As the baby's blood sugar will rise, the baby's activation will increase. You also need to drink plenty of water. If there is a significant decrease in the baby's movement, contact your doctor. Your maternity bag should now be ready.

36th Week of Pregnancy
36.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirty-sixth gestational week, the baby's height is about 47 cm and its weight is about 2550 grams. This week, all organ systems have completed their development and maturation. The baby begins to descend into the birth canal. The mother describes this by saying that her belly has come down a little. Due to the accumulation of fat, folds occur in the knee, elbow, neck and wrist areas of the baby. The baby's palate becomes hard. Babies born from this time usually do not have a problem.

MOM

Weekly examinations are required after the 36th week. With the pressure of the growth of the uterus, the pain increases. There may be urinary incontinence. Insomnia complaints increase. Due to the pressure of the uterus on the rib cage, complaints of chest tightness and shortness of breath increase. During this period, a vaginal examination is performed by your doctor to evaluate the width of the pelvis, popularly known as the roof. Even if the roof is suitable for delivery, it is decided whether the delivery will be vaginally or by cesarean section, by the examination performed during the birth and by monitoring the baby's heartbeat. Baby is followed with weekly NST

37th Week of Pregnancy
37.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirty-seventh week, the baby's height is approximately 48 cm and its weight is 2750 grams. Your baby's gums have also completed their maturation and are now hard. Respiratory movements are also common movements. Although the lungs are not filled with air with these movements, the purpose of these movements, which are repeated hundreds of times throughout the day, is to strengthen the respiratory muscles. The baby hiccups frequently and sucks his thumb. His head is now starting to settle in your birth canal. You may experience fullness in your groin, a feeling of pressure in your vagina, increased groin pain when walking, restlessness and more frequent urination. This week, the baby's fine hair has completely disappeared. The nails of his feet reach the toes. The baby's weight gain gradually increases. The baby can turn towards light and sound.

MOM

During these weeks, the weight gain in the baby and mother can be very rapid. Your doctor may want to perform normal childbirth preparation examinations such as vaginal infection investigation, roof (pelvis) examination. During these weeks, you may feel a emptiness and relief in the upper part of your abdomen. This indicates that your baby is descending into the birth canal and is called engagement. As the pressure in your stomach will disappear, your appetite can be reopened. Similarly, there will be no pressure on your lungs, making it easier to breathe. Your frequency of urination will increase after engagement, just as it was at the beginning of your pregnancy. Your baby's movements can be easily monitored from the outside. Your baby's movements can hurt you, especially under your rib cage.

38th Week of Pregnancy
38.gebelikhaftası.jpg

BABY

At the 38th gestational week, the baby's height is about 50 cm, CRL is 34 cm, and weight is 2900 grams. In these weeks, the baby has grown quite a bit and there is not much change other than weight gain. At the thirty-eighth week, the baby's appearance is like a normal baby. Head circumference and abdominal circumference are almost equal. The baby's lung development is complete. The soft hairs (Lanuga) and the creamy substance called vernix caseosa have disappeared. The first stool, called meconium, begins to accumulate in your baby's intestines. Mekoyum is the first green-black colored poop, and when the baby is in distress for any reason, he will poop first. This condition is called fetal distress. This stool is normally made in the first 24-48 hours after birth.

MOM

From this week on, the baby can come at any time. The cervix is shaped and prepared for birth. Until this week, the cervix is closed by a mucus plug. Among the people, this slimy mucus plug is called engagement. The purpose of this mucus plug is to protect the inside of your uterus and your baby against germs and infections from the vagina. The fact that this mucus plug comes from the vagina is one of the signs of childbirth and is popularly called "engagement". Engagement can come a few weeks before birth, or it can come just a few hours before. You will usually feel the mark as a bloody snot-like discharge. In the last 2-3 weeks, you may have constant false contractions. The finding that distinguishes them from true labor pains is that they do not come at regular intervals. If the contractions come once every 3 minutes, each pain lasts 50 seconds and the pain is getting stronger, it is real labor pain. In this case, you should immediately consult a doctor. Most births occur between 38 and 42 weeks.

39th Week of Pregnancy
39.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the thirty-ninth week, the baby's height is about 50-51 cm, and its weight is about 3200 grams. The baby continues to gain weight. But as fat accumulation gradually decreases, weight gain also slows down. He can't move much because his place is narrow. Sucking muscles are well developed. The immune system also gains strength day by day. Antibodies passed from the mother to the baby with the help of the placenta strengthen the baby's immune system. The baby's immune system will continue to strengthen after birth thanks to breast milk. Birth can begin at any time.

MOM

During these weeks, you start to gain less weight, just like the baby. Mothers who have a Cesarean section for medical reasons can give birth any day after this week. Consult your doctor in case of decreased baby movements, bleeding or water leakage! Mothers who are expecting a normal birth can tire with the false pains that come frequently during this period. The mother's complaints of frequent urination continue. To prevent blood pressure drops that may occur in the supine position, choose the left side lying position.

40th Week of Pregnancy
40.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

At the fortieth week of pregnancy, the baby's length is about 51-52 cm, and its weight is about 3400 grams. Normally this week is the perfect time to give birth. Some babies may be born before 40 weeks, while others may reach 41 weeks. Fingernails cross fingertips. The baby continues to gain weight.

MOM

You have entered the week with the highest probability of giving birth. Monitor your baby's movements constantly and consult your doctor if baby movements decrease. In the last week, the baby's water sac (amniotic membrane) can open at any time and your water may come out. Sometimes, excess amniotic fluid can sometimes be in the form of leakage. You may even feel like you are leaking urine when it is low. Regardless of the amount, if you think that amniotic fluid has come, you should call your doctor or go to the hospital without wasting time.

41st Week of Pregnancy
41.gebelikhaftası.jpg
BABY

In the forty-first week, the baby's height is approximately 52 cm, and its weight is 3500 grams. Most babies are born before this week.

MOM

In a minority of pregnancies, delivery occurs at week 41. After the 40th week, it is considered as day out. If the baby is still unborn, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible for your and your baby's condition. Under normal circumstances, your baby should be born now.
Newborn; Due to the presence of maternal hormones in your baby's circulation, bags in boys and labia in girls will appear larger than normal. There may even be milk coming from the breasts after giving birth. This is a condition that can be seen in both girls and boys and disappears on its own within a few days. Girl  children may also sometimes have vaginal bleeding due to the hoons passed from the mother. These are normal.
